Back when Greenfield was just being formed it was a small town of around 400 people. The city was part of Hancock County, Indiana which was formed on March 1, 1828. About a month later, on April 11, Greenfield was given the title of county seat and has kept that spot ever since. When Greenfield incorporated in 1876 the area was home to over 2,000 residents. Today Greenfield is home to over 15,000 residents and maintains a small town atmosphere blended with all of the amenities that you might expect from a city in the Indianapolis metropolitan area.
