Cost of Living
An index of the overall cost of living for an area, where 100 equals the national average. It takes into account housing, food and groceries, transportation, utilities, health care, and miscellaneous expenses such as clothing, services, and entertainment. State and local taxes are not included.
Property Crime Index
An index of the property related crime for an area, where 100 equals the national average. Property crime represents the combined risks of burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft.
Total Crime Index
An index of the total crime for an area, where 100 equals the national average. Total crime represents the combined risks of rape, murder, assault, robbery, burglary, larceny and vehicle theft.
Population
The area's population, based on the 2000 Census figures and projected forward to the present year.
Population Density
The number of residents per square mile of area.
Median Age
The median age of all residents. Median is the middle value, when all possible values are listed in order. Median is not the same as average (or arithmetic mean).
Median Income
The median income of all households in the geographic area. The median is the middle value when all are arranged from highest to lowest.
Sales Tax
The sales tax percentage for this community. Data on sales tax may be limited and this figure may only be accurate to the county level for many communities. City taxes for some municipalities may not be included in this figure.
Closest Airport
The local airport or international air terminal that is closest to this community.
Closest College
The local community college or major university that is closest to this community.
Total Households
The number of individual housing units in the geographic area.
Homes Owned
The percentage of housing units which are owned by the occupant. A housing unit is a house, apartment, mobile home, or room occupied as separate living quarters.
Home Median Value
The median value of the home sales for the most recent 12 months. Note that this is not the average (or arithmetic mean). The median home price is the middle value when you arrange all the sales prices of homes from lowest to highest. This is a better indicator than the average, because the median is not changed as much by a few unusually high or low values.
